Destination ImagiNation Teams Form and Gear Up for the 2009-10 Season
Students Begin to Tackle Both Homework and DI Challenges
October 5, 2009 – Glassboro, NJ – As they settle into the new school year, Destination ImagiNation (DI) teams are beginning to practice how they will solve their selected Team Challenges and look toward competing in their local Tournaments. The fall season gives DI teams the opportunity to plan how to balance schoolwork with practice sessions and other after-school activities.
“Destination ImagiNation has more than 12,000 participating teams annually,” said Nyla Kimmett, Destination ImagiNation Colorado Affiliate Director. “In the 2008-09 season, Colorado had more than 730 teams across the state, and 34 teams reached the Global Finals. We hope more students Start a Team and experience this exhilarating after-school activity.”
With all of the activities available to students today, some might view participating in a DI team too time-consuming. But according to one DI alumnus, being part of a team was a benefit. “Participating in DI gave me the tools to manage my time efficiently, which I now use in my professional life,” said Andrew Whitmire, who now works as Operations Project Coordinator for Destination ImagiNation, Inc.
Fellow alumni who have applied their DI experience include Heisman Trophy candidate Casey Keenum, Ken Baumann from ABC’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and international superstar Zac Efron.
Participating in a DI Team is a life-changing experience that gives participants real-world skills that they can use everyday. Students interested in Destination ImagiNation who want to Start a Team can still purchase Team Numbers by visiting www.IDODI.org.
